The Thomas Tang Memorial Scholarship Receipients
Jesus Alonso: 2L at The University of Arizona. Jesus is originally from Los Angeles, California, and he double majored in Psychology and Political Science at the University of California, San Diego. After finishing his undergraduate studies, he spent some years working in various tutoring and mentoring programs in K-12 schools. Although he enjoyed working in education, he realized that teaching and counseling were not for him and he decided to attend law school. In his free time, Jesus enjoys hiking, camping, football, soccer, and basketball.
Stephen Fong: 1L at The University of Arizona. Born and raised in San Francisco, Stephen came to Arizona to gain a perspective of the United States not from California. His lifetime hobbies include photography and martial arts, which he has been practicing for 7 years and 18 years respectively. Most recently, Stephen has taken up cooking, specifically meat curing. As Arizona holds much Asian-American history, Stephen hopes to better familiarize himself with the Asian-American community to have a positive impact on Asian Americans growing up in Arizona.
Verity Kang: 2Lat Arizona State University. Verity is a Phoenix native, a Korean- American, and a double-devil ASU student. She also served on the executive board for the Asian Pacific American Law Students Association at ASU and participated in the Diversity Legal Writing Program at Quarles & Brady. In summer 2018, she will be a law clerk at Kutak Rock in Scottsdale.
Cindy Nguyen: 3L at The University of Arizona. Cindy is from Atlanta, Georgia, and graduated from the University of Georgia in 2012 with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a minor in Chinese Language and Literature. After graduating college, Cindy worked for two years as an Administrative Assistant before applying to law school. Cindy chose Arizona Law because of its smaller class size and hands-on legal clinics. Her favorite classes have been contract drafting, employment law, and the Workers’ Rights Clinic. Cindy is graduating in May 2018 and will be working as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Charles Harrington.
